Why Smart Metering? you ask…

A step towards decarbonisation

Make sure you understand the advantage of accessing tax advantages for projects contributing towards the National Carbon Footprint Targets. Download “South Africa’s carbon tax: Balancing climate action and economic development” study here.

Conventional Meters – These type of meters are mechanical or “Analogue”. They have no electronic circuitry and are akin to a mileage trip meter of older vehicles. They store now data and are typically read once a month.

Smart Meters – Smart meters are electronic and they are able to store data for up to a year. They are far more accurate than analogue meters. Meter and Consumption data is recorded in half-hour intervals. A consumer is able to log onto a website and see readings over any period during which the meter is active and online.

Examples of Smart Energy Meters (Single Phase / Three Phase / Demand / TOU & Smart Prepaid)

It is essential for metering to form part of the early planning stages of a building.

Examples of Smart Water Meters (Residential and Commercial Meters)

Water meters are also available in Analogue or Smart. Analogue meters that are able to take a reed switch as can be seen below are linked to a an electronic pulse counter, calibrated to measure the amount of water passing through the meter. Pulse counters are connected to a Data Concentrator. Our data concentrators are able to collect data from up to 250 meters in a building. These data values are then parsed and reflected as billing values for each tenant or service measured.
